The 990 EVO delivers improved performance, boasting a remarkable 43% enhancement compared to its predecessor, the 970 EVO Plus. With sequential read speeds reaching 5,000 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s, it represents a significant advancement. Furthermore, random read and write speeds see a boost, achieving up to 700K input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 800K IOPS, respectively.
Leveraging Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology for a direct connection to the host processor’s DRAM, this SSD attains optimized performance, even in a DRAM-less design. Those transitioning from previous mainstream SSDs will notice considerably faster game loading speeds and quick access to large files.

The Samsung 990 EVO boasts enhanced power efficiency, achieving up to a 70% improvement compared to the 970 EVO Plus. This ensures extended usage on PCs without constant worries about battery life. The heat spreader label on the 990 EVO efficiently manages the thermal conditions of the NAND chip, ensuring operations consistently operate at peak levels without jeopardizing drive integrity.
